The CCDFEMS hiring process is validated and established by the Carroll County Government. It utilizes industry standard practices to vet future employees. Since all hirees are currently required to be previously certified and experienced, the process is expanded to test you base knowledge to do the job!

Validate Credentials

  • Attention to detail!
    • ​If you do not turn in all required documents or information, you will not move forward in the process.
    • You must have all of the required certifications to apply. Visit our "Transition" page for more information.

Written Exam

Physical Agility Test Orientation and Testing

  • PAT Orientation will be offered to those who pass the written exam.
    • Dates will be established after the Written Exam.
  • PAT Orientation and Testing takes place at the Carroll County Public Safety Training Center.
    • 50 Kate Wagner Rd. Westminster, MD 21157​
  • ​PAT final testing will be scheduled to take place after the orientation dates.

Interview

  • For those moving on in the process, an oral interview will be next.
  • Self-explanatory and consistent with other hiring processes! 
    • ​​Dress to impress and don't forget that resume!

Position Specific Testing

  • CCDFEMS is hiring you because you are certified and experienced. So prove it!
  • Position Specific Testing is built to validate your knowledge base.

Background Investigation, Occupational Physical, and Psychological Testing

  • The Background Investigation is a legal requirement for fire/EMS and County employment.  It will be comprehensive.
  • Occupational Physicals and Drug Testing are in-line with NFPA 1582. This is the same physical all current career staffing and volunteers in Carroll County complete annually.
  • Psychological Testing has increasingly become a concern for new hirers. The stress of fire & EMS requires certain standards in psychological health, validated by this testing.
